My father took out medical insurance in India to cover his visit to the UK (travel+medical insurance). He has extended his trip by 10 days but the insurance company refuses to extend his policy because he is over 70. Is there some kind of insurance I can get for him in the UK that will cover the rest of his trip and the flight home?

Looks like he has to give details of his health history. Why not get in touch with his insurance in India and ask for the extension through them?
Here in Canada we sell a Visitors to Canada travel insurance policy. This is usually purchased by people whose relatives are visiting from a country where travel insurance is unavailable, very expensive or their policy coverage is extremely limited to be useful. I’m sure their must be an equivalent type of policy sold by U.K. insurance brokers. Since your father is already in the country, there will probably be a wating period depending on how he has been in the country. Since this waiting period can be bewteen 48 hours to 7 days, it might not be worth purchasing if he is leaving within the waiting period. Keep in mind this only covers emergency medical, he will have to pay for his flight home. Also the policy will not cover any pre-existing conditions. So if he had to extend his trip because of an accident or sickness, the new policy will not respond. It will only respond to accidents or sicknesses after the waiting period.
