There often seem to be questions on here voicing dispair at how the world is and portrayals of life getting worse.
Yet to my mind, this is missing the reality of how the world has continued to improve in so many ways.
When I was a child, we were told to do what we could to help the starving in the far east. The far east is now the wealthy tiger economy of south east asia.
Lifespans increase every decade.
Cancer treatments are coming online that reduce the threat of this terrible desease.
World poverty is in decline.
We have the technology to recognise the damage to the environment and the capability to deal with the problems.
The world united to deal with CFCs.
There are a great many problems in the world, and fundamentalism seems to have picked up where the cold war left off, but I can’t think of any time in history that I would rather be alive.
Why do people dispair so much rather than reach out for a better future?

Every soul shall taste of death; and We test you with evil and good by way of trial. And to US shall you be returned.
I agree with you. The religious people seem to want to throw around this sin/evil thing all the time as a means to get people to believe in their delusion. Very negative behaviour in my view. They need to spend more time enjoying life, its beauty and natural wonder.
It is getting to be MORE of everything… just because there is so much goodness does not eclipse the horror and terror in the world… Dreams are given to us to inspire, but so are the nightmares.
Depends on how you define “better”…you sound like an eternal optimist.
There are many different “worlds” that we live in.
The home, the work place, the district, the state, the country…..
The mother who has just lost her son in the war, would not agree with you.
The mother who has just lost her two year old daughter to cancer, would not agree with you.
I do understand what you are saying, though.
With all of the advancements we have made in the science and medical fields are good things.
Modern conveniences are a blessing. I love how indoor plumbing, electric, automobiles, full grocery stores, air conditioning, washers and dryers, microwaves, and so many other things make our lives more convenient. I would hate to have lived 100 or 200 years ago. I am very thankful for the things that I have.
What a great question and wonderful comments.
For the “believer” we are told that: “the path of the righteous grows brighter and brighter” and it is so true after 16 years with Jesus…, relationally, financially, health wise…, every way I can think of.
The world system is more and more difficult and pervasive, but like you, I think this is the best time in history to be alive! What a wonderful world and time and happenings to participate in.
Be grateful and make every effort to be a part of the building crew rather than the wrecking crew. Give something of encouragement to your fellowman. Smile at someone today and listen to someone besides yourself. People are amazing! LIFE is worth living! Go for it. If you can’t stand your life, don’t end it, give it to Jesus and challenge Him to make it into something memorable!
I think it depends on everyones own experiences. Unfortunately many people read, hear and see the media and that is a very negative source for information. When people fear, they are easier to control and spend more money. If you lived in the mountains without any media influence, Im sure life would be wonderful. We are influential and impressionable creatures and our leaders know and abuse this fact.
