Female Visiting South Korea Alone?

fyi i’m 24 and from the u.s. – is it advisable to dress more conservatively when i visit seoul or are they totally “westernized” in that aspect? also, i’m visiting a few other cities in asia alone, which i’m a bit nervous about, but i should be okay alone in seoul, right? i don’t plan on acting like a complete dumbass, but if i need to find a male tour guide to be safe i will. basically, i don’t know how dangerous this city is for a girl travelling alone and i just don’t want to be robbed or harrassed since being a slightly absent minded foreigner puts a giant target on my head, haha
ok thanks in advance!!

Hi. I lived in Korea for 4 years, and can tell you, it is a pretty safe place. I would drunkenly walk home alone at 4am and be fine. However, in Seoul, you have to be a bit more wary. A lot of Korean men think all white women are ‘easy’ and will try to take advantage. If they ask if you are Russian, they are really asking if you’re a whore. In Seoul, the foreign hangout area is Itaewon. Here, the biggest danger is the American GIs!!!
But really, in the day, you should be fine, and at night, same as most places, don’t walk alone.
As for other places in Asia, email me where you are going, and I can give you tips. I’ve travelled extensively around Asia (alone) and not had any troubles.
And I don’t get the sarcasm either – some people on this can be real jerks!!
But good luck in Korea – it’s great!

because im not a foreigner, i go around by myself like everyone does.
THere are no people carring guns or large crime in Korea. You wont be kidnapped or anything but just watch your bags. Pickpocket happends EVERYWHERE in the world
Korera is more respect toward Foreigners, so its all good
just dont wonder around weird/quiet corners though.

I would do maybe a little research through google or something? If you can’t get anything from that, then I would go with dressing conservatively just in case.

Probably best that you don’t wander around anywhere alone especially as a tourist.

It’s relatively safe in S. Korea esp. seoul. Getting robbed or mugged is quite rare. You wont have any problem wandering around alone though you might need someone who can speak the language to go around shopping :-p But yeah I wouldn’t walk around alone in some dark, secluded areas at night (foreign or not) About clothes, just try not to wear clothes that are too ‘revealing’ or too sexy, but you also don’t need to be so conservative. Some Korean girls wears sexy clothes but since you’re foreigner you might stand out.
