My fiance is travelling to California on a fiance visa this month. We have 3 months to get married and then we can apply for his permanent residence and social security, which I hear will take about 6 months. Therefore I don’t think I can put him under my work’s health insurance. In the meantime, what can he do about health insurance? Will travel insurance w/ medical coverage be okay until I can put him under my health coverage?

An insurance policy for life or health would not be effected by immigration status.
Deport illegals, and keep the dream alive.
Travel insurance will NOT cover him as he is not travelling but moving.
Talk to your insurers and find out how soon you can add him. My husband found out he could add me before our wedding as my arrival counted as a major life change. Marry ASAP but 2-3 weeks after his arrival go to the social security office and apply for his card. Don’t mention being married already as this can delay the issue of the card. He can’t lie to them but he needn’t volunteer the truth. I just forgot to put on my wedding ring the morning I went to apply for my card and had no problem at all. Once things had settled down at little I took my marriage license and green card and got the name changed. As a man he won’t even have to bother about that.
He or you will have to pay for it yourselves. It is up to you as to the kind of insurance you get. Travel insurance does not normally last for this long. Even if you do get it, it might require him to be evacuated back home. You can buy insurance in the US, but it will be expensive.
