Help With Medical Expenses?

I have been suffereing with pain for almost a year and have finally found a way to fix it. I will need surgery, however, there are no doctors around my areao who actually perform the type of surgery I need. I have done much research on this and finally found a doctor who will be able to help me. Unfourtunely, I have to fly out to the hospital and stay in a hotel for a week. This is going to cost me a lot of money! I spoke to my insurance company, Anthem, about this and they may cover the surgey, but not the plane ride nor hotel expenses. This upset me. I feel that I shouldn’t need to pay this because I HAVE to travel in order to get better. Is there anything out there that helps to cover costs for these types of situations? Or is there anything I can do? I’d love to hear some answeres! Thank you!

What caused your injury? What it from an accident? Perhaps you could seek reimbursement from any party who may have been responsible for your injury. If your problem was not caused by an accident, then unfortunately, you don’t have much of a choice. Your health insurance will probably cover the surgery and related medical expenses while in the hospital, however, travel is not going to be covered. If they covered travel, then imagine how many people would want gasoline and mileage reimbursement because they HAD to drive to a doctor’s office. What confuses me about your situation is, Why do you have to stay in a hotel for a week? I would think you would stay in the hospital until you’re ready to go home, and then I would think you would go home. Why stay in a hotel? Is that medically necessary? I have had friends who needed to raise money for situations like this, and we have held benefits for them. We get a hall at a local VFW or something similar, have a little party, charge a cover for guests to attend, and we have been very successful raising money for friends in need.
