I think he can get travel medical insurance. My mom just went to Peru & she got sick w/the cold. I looked up the US consul in Peru & they have a list of hospitals/clinics that US citizens should go to. Look that up for the country he’s visiting, just in case. Good luck!!!
He really should get some insurance. Most trips are event free, however if the worst happens it can get very expensive. Free treatment is often available but in some South American countries the public healthcare can be a bit unsavoury!
