Please Help!! Should I Choose Military Life Or Civilian Life?

Please, I need advice on what to do.
Okay, I am in the Air force Delayed Entry Program, and I don’t know what to do…
When I first went in, it was because University life didn’t work out very well for me and a lot of good jobs aren’t hiring.
But now, I’m having second thoughts.
I was in the Air Force DEP before and luckily got back in.
However, my recruiter told me that if I leave again, he never wants to see my face anymore.
So if I leave again, that’s it, no more Air Force. No more military in general, which I suppose I don’t mind…
It’s just I want to relax, and I know in the military I won’t have that much of a reaxed atmosphere.
But I will get great benefits in the military like 30 days paid vacation, good priced insurance, good medical care, the chance to travel, etc.
But nothing really comes free in life and I’m going to be working very hard.
I also know that if I ever wanted to leave the military, I couldn’t just do it, so what if I wanted to leave right away? I couldn’t do it =/
I know the typical “suck it up and deal with it” thing, but you cannot just suck up and deal with everything that gets thrown at you. No one can.
I’ve heard of a lot of people in the military describe how horrible of a time thy were having, and there were people who liked it.
If I don’t do the military, I was planning on working and going to a local college part time.
I know I’m going to do something with my life, I’m just not sure if the military path is the exact path I want to follow, but I don’t want to let down my recruiter again, and I especially don’t want to let down my father. But I want to just be happy and know what the better choice is. What do I do???

Civilian life IS easier and funner, but the best way to decide if you want military or civilian life is to
    1) Know why you want to go in in the first place. Is it your own will or someone else’s?
2)Know what you want out of your life. The military is great if you want structure and direction. It’s also good if you want to see the world. If you’re very independent, the military may not be so good for you. It’s gonna be my worst shortcoming.
I WOULD REALLY RECOMEND ANOTHER RECUITER. It sounds to me like he could be the main cause of your doubts.
    3) Don’t let other people make your decisions for you. Concider serious romantic relationships and family.
I’m personally about to go into the air force myself, so good luck. I hope this helps.

You’re joining the CHAIR FORCE. Depending on your job, unless you get rounded up for training to supplement the Army in Iraq or Afghanistan, you’ll probably be sitting at a desk stateside, and the suckiest part of your day will be if the A/C goes out.
But, if you’re so wimpy you can’t handle that, then you don’t belong in the military.

i disagree with snarf the military is what you need to grow and understand what you want in life.use it as a way to find a career goal best bet is to become a nurse

You sound insecure, and indecisive. You dont belong in the military. And you should be ashamed of wasting your recruiters time.

you need to sit down and think about what YOU want. it doesnt sound like you would do very well in the military. they need people who are tough and can make decisions and live with the consequences. no one here is going to help you make this decision, only you can decide whats best for you. not your father, not your recruiter. but being indecisive like this is a crappy quality to have in life anyways, so maybe you should work on that before you try joining any branch (and no, leaving AF DEP again does not mean no more military ever, geez)

First, take a deep breath and relax. I agree that no one can make this decision for you. I think the one thing you need to do is figure out what has you so hesitant to commit to the Air Force. You seem to know why you would want to, but you haven’t really said what it is about it that deters you. If you’re not 100% sure yet, I think the first thing you should do is extend your date of availability to give yourself more time to think. Then just sit down and weigh the pros and cons of all the different scenarios you have so far mapped out for your life. That should help you make a concrete decision.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

your recruiter its lying to you in first place he just wants you to make a choice Now because he needs he numbers,if you got a clean record and everything its good you can join anytime and if he doesnt want to see you again call other of the recruiter in different area if he/she can help you . i know your recruiter its ******* around with you for the reason i seen people pop on piss test not pass the exam have more than 7 tattos with criminal record and still get in LOL and me had to deal with them in the fleet in the Fleet and they were crappiest, laziest workers i seen in my life.
Military has great benefits on Mos training and like if you got to avionics school you get out and you can make 90k + and they got alright medical and food.but most likely your job its gonna be 8am-5pm like a normal job don’t expect to jumping over logs or anything once you hit the fleet.
but i was in the Us Marines so its a totally experience we get the worste during E-1 to E-5 all the crappiest and you get treated like chit but from what i heard and seen you guys got it made when you deploy you guys stay in hotels while we stay in tents…

Gosh I wish I knew your Recruiter. You obviously don’t have what it takes to be in the military….you dropped out of DEP once already and now are considering doing the same. The military isn’t a cake walk but nothing in life is easy even a regular 9-5 job comes with it’s cons.
Talk about flaky…..okay had to get that off my chest.
Now to answer your question. Have you ever considered working for the government? Did you know that government employees have close to the same benefits that military members have, minus the free medical and dental. As a government employee you can go overseas, have your tuition paid for, have federal holidays off, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement is hella good….there’s more but here’s the site: http://www.usajobs.com or http://www.opm.gov
It a good option and you should look into it. They also have intern programs so while you’re going to school to finish up your degree, you can also work for them and then get hired on once you complete your education (they offer tuition assistance too).
Please tell your Recruiter ASAP. The sooner he knows, the better. Hopefully he has someone to backfill your position so he doesn’t get dinged for it.
    GL!!!

Hey, i just want you to know that you are not alone! I graduated high school in 2005, and wasnt sure what I wanted to, it just seemed like everyone else was going to college and so i jumped on the band wagon. I never thought i would join the military, i never even considered it a possibility, i wish i did b.c now that im getting accquainted with this “real world”, I think the military is the only thing left in our society that has stability. I chose the air national guard because after my basic training and tech school, i can come back to the civillain world and go to school for free if i dont want to make the military a career,(i get a 20,000 bonus also) i can come back to my family, friends, and my obligations are one weekend a month two weeks a year. Its hard to think about medical bills, car insurance, housing, retirement and your entire future when your 18. im 22 and i still have a hard time grasping it. a lot of my friends who are about to graduate w. a degree have worries of finding employment, being able to pay back student loans and debt that they have occurred throughout those years. Consider the guard or reserves in whatever branch you are interested in, that way you will receive benefits and training and even education from them and if you like it, you have the tools to pursue it, and if you don’t, you can go to school and get more education and do what you want! I am nervous also, i recently signed, but as scared as i am i know its probably the best descion I’ve made to get the most out of life. and for your recruiter, who cares! you can find another recruiter!
