I’m planning to travel to Canada and stay there for a year in Toronto. I’m also thinking to take my wife (pregnant) as well who will not be covered under Ontario Health insurance program. Please share your medical cost incurred during pregnancy (from 3rd tri-mester) and post pregnancy on new born care. I want to know the medical expenses that need to taken care out of my pocket if not covered under the local health insurance.

I know that there was $600 dollars charged to my health plan over and above what OHIP covered. Your best bet would be to contact the hospital and talk to someone in the billing department. The fees will vary greatly depending on whether you have a natural pregnancy or c-section, if the baby is healthy or needs care, how well Mommy does, what kinds of drugs are used, etc…

I thought people in Canada get free medical care? Isn’t it all paid for by the government or some sort?
