My friend currently resides in California and is being forced into a domestic partnership with another woman for religious reasons. My friend makes really good money, has good insurance, and has 2 children with her current boyfriend.
About the woman that my friend is being forced into a domestic partnership due to religious reasons:
-she has a lot of medical problems.
-she has a credit card that she has almost run up to the max.
-she is currently unemployed and has no plans to get a job.
-her reasons for not getting a job is becuase of her “medical” problems and she can’t find a job in education that allows her to travel.
-she has no income besides the money that she gets from making jewerly for people (which isn’t that often).
About marriages in my friends religion:
-if a person is put into an aranged marriage they have the option of divorcing that person after 2 years.
-they only have to provide the basic necessides for their partner if their partner chooses not to work.
-they have an option to ask for a pre-nup aggreement.
-they have to live with the person for at least the first 2 years of their marriage, whether or not a legal separation is granted. If one party decides to file for legal separation, they have to wait for at least 24 hours after they were legally married.
What I would like to know:
If my friend were to file for legal separation, how long would it take to be approved? (days, months, years)
Until the legal separation is approved how does my friend financially protect herself against this girl?
Can my friend legally redo her will after she married this girl, to make it to where her girls would get everything and leave this girl only with $5 or $10 dollers?

A legalized Domestic Partnership in California is governed by State Law and not religious ones.
