Travel Guard Trip Protection Same As International Travel Insurance?

Im going to Tokyo this summer for 2 months, with a school, and in order to go on trips to Kyoto etc we need International Travel Insurance.
But with my airline (united) I got AIG Travel Guard Trip protection which i paid i think close to $30 for when I bought my plane ticket.
is that the same thing?
or does that count as the travel insurance?

The policy seems low for travel insurnace.. For example, TravelEx compensates for up to 150% of your trip cost.. I’ve been using them a long time now, here is a link if you want to get a free quote. http://www.travelex-insurance.com/index.…
