I am going to Bulgaria for a fortnight on Wednesday, and wasn’t going to bother with travel insurance, but I am re-considering to give me piece of mind in case I lose my luggage (has happened previously, although I got my case back, so never needed to claim).
Anyhow, I am staying with family, so I have only paid around £160, to book my flights.
I have one of those cards that covers you for medical treatment within Europe.
I have did a search on moneysupermarket.com and they have policies from as little as £5.51. I realise that the cheaper policies might not provide a massive level of cover, but I only really want a basic policy to cover my essentials.
Does anyone have any guidelines to what I need cover for? values etc?
I am not taking a lot of cash with me, and my luggage won’t be worth a great amount of money – I’m taking around 6 outfits, and I tend to buy most of my clothes from Primark, so the most expensive thing in my luggage would probably be my GHD’s.

The main things you need to cover for are medical, cancellation/missed departure, airline failure and luggage/possessions.
The EHIC card that you have will only cover for limited things- if you were unlucky enough to do something serious, it wouldn’t cover you or get you flown home to the UK.
The cheap policies are fine- just check the small print. If you get £1 million of health cover (not as crazy as it sounds!) and £1000 for each of the others, that should do it.
So many people don’t bother with insurance and bitterly regret it. For the sake of less than a tenner, don’t be one of them…
