Traveler’s Insurance And Health Insurance?

I’m traveling to The Netherlands, this is going to be my first flight and I know that I need medical insurance. Like most Americans, I don’t have health insurance for various reasons; like it being hard to obtain in “the land of the (not so) free.”
Question is; What’s the difference between Heath Insurance and Traveler’s Insurance? If the traveler’s insurance I get covers medical, emergencies, etc, do I still need to get health?
Also~Side Question: Do I need to get a visa for staying less than 2 weeks if I’m going to have a valid passport? I checked The Netherlands Embassy website, it said I didn’t, but I want to double/triple check.

I think you best get a travel insurance that also covers Health while abroad. That does cover emergency treatment, but no regular health coverage. It will, likely, also cover bringing you back home after health problems.
Yes, do read the insurance policy, as not all have the same coverage.
You can get a travel insurance that does not include a medical coverage, but those are for people who already have their medical needs covered by a very good normal health insurance.
If you are not insured at home, get the best coverage you can afford, so that you will not need to pay medical bills if something does happen abroad.
As USA citizen you will get a stamp in your passport upon arrival, in lieu of a visa. This will allow you up to 90 days stay as tourist or for business, in a period of 180 days, and covers the whole Schengen area, which is much of continental Europe.

Traveller’s insurance usually includes medical insurance but also for instance insurance for your luggage. Not all traveller’s insurance is the same though, so make sure you read your policy well and compare different ones before you pick one if you haven’t already got one.
The best info about visa and such is on the Dutch Embassy website so if it says you don’t need a visa there then you don’t need one.
    Have a nice trip!
