Im traveling to Italy on Sunday, and am trying to hurry and schedule my doctors appointments in. Im wondering, because I cant find the information anywhere, do I need to have some sort of “clean bill of health” from my doctor or any kind of proof of medical insurance when I travel abroad, or at least to Italy? When I do go to my doctor, are there anythings in particular I should ask to get vaccinated or checked out for before I go? Etc. etc….

i didn’t need to get anything like that when i went in march. all i needed was a passport and lots of money
Where are you from? US or Europe?
No, you won’t need a clean bill of health. As long as you don’t have any obvious infectious diseases (chicken pox, mumps, etc) you will be fine.
Also, going to Italy is not like going on safari. You won’t need any special shots unless you will be going into wooded areas or will be visiting farms. Speak to your doctor if this is the case.
If you are coming from the US, you will find that if you need any OTC medications while there, they don’t just let you buy them like you can here. You need to go to the doctor to get a prescription for just about everything.
Bring a small travel cache of diarrhea medication (traveler’s tummy!), Tylenol/Advil, dramamine (if you are prone to motion sickness), & Benedryl (multi-purpose! Good for colds, allergies and sleeplessness).
Hopefully you won’t need to use them, but you will definitely be glad you have them if you *do* need them.
Enjoy your trip!
You should be fine in Italy. I would advise for having traveler’s insurance, but it may not be required. Don’t have to worry about vaccinations. You’ll be fine.
I just came from there and even got a little look-see into Italian helathcare (fell and cut my leg open for stitches…). Before I left, I simply made sure I had basic traveler’s insurance and everything was taken care of.
Though be wary that you’ll probably have to pay any medical bills you might incur (i.e. stitches) up front while in Italy, and then your insurance will refund you when you return.
Hi there,
Italy is no third-world country — it is in Europe, for heck’s sake! As such, you do not need any vaccines when travelling to Italy, nor are you required to be vaccinated against anything. You do not need to ask your doctor to check you for anything, unless you are afraid of carrying Swine Flu.
Hope this helped,
JPJ
You don’t need anything. I’ve never had any trouble with that in customs or whatever. You don’t need any vaccines. I’ve been four times, and have never had any issues health-related. Relax and go to Europe!
No. Italy is not a third world country, dear. Even their water is safe, though you’ll generally be buying over-priced bottles of water that are roughly 20oz.
No clean bill of health is necessary for Italy. No vaccinations needed.
Nothing needed from a medical point of view!
