Uzbekistan Or Kazakhstan: Which Country Is Better To Travel To?

Filed under : Travel Guide

I’m interested in traveling to Central Asia (silk road, the trace of Muslim traders, stuff like that…)
Which country is best to travel to in terms of these qualities?
a) safety (less violent crimes, theft and mugging, rare chances of terrorism & civil war stuff)
b) hygiene (clean public bathrooms, hotels, drinkable water)
c) magnificent architecture and historical sites
d) beautiful nature and exotic scenery
e) tourist-friendly (many English speaking local people, tour guides and lots of signs in English)
My candidates are Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
You may choose the one best country or rank all of them in order :)

    Turkmenistan – extremely safe (like any strict dictatorship), many doubts about services though. Highly recommended if you are curious about social life during Stalin’s period and don’t have a time machine.
    Uzbekistan – culturally very rich country, with a lot of magnificent places to visit but due to ethnic and political-religious tensions is quite troublesome. Forget about hygiene while there;
    Tajikistan – ethnic and linguistic brother of Iran. Breathtaking view of the mountains, ancient history, pit-stop for drug traffickers from Afghanistan, recent violent political past;
    Kazakhstan – the most europeanised country of all the four. Decent service, English-speaking youth, not too much to see except for very warm people;
    Remember that if you are a guest in these countries you’ll have the best what the locals have. It is in Central Asian cultural traditions to treat a guest as a god.

    I live in Kazakhstan, in Almaty and I think it’s better.
    Beautiful nature, tourist-friendly and safety are 100% guaranteed here, especially the first I said – is amazing.
    There is no a lot of magnificent architecture in Kazakhstan, but Taraz, Turkestan and Almaty cities have some interesting place to visit.
    I dont know what about hygiene.. its bearable for people who live here all time)))
    I’ve been to Kyrgystan. Issik-Kul lake is fantastic but cities there are really small and a little bit empty..
    sorry for mistakes) if you would go to Almaty i’d be happy to help))

    As a US Kazakh citizen I would recommend you visit Astana in Kazakhstan. It’s the more luxorious, rich side of Kazakhstan, but I warn you, It’s still being built. Almaty is another great city as one had stated earlier as well.
