okay i’m asian. and alot of other older asians call me “fat” or “chubby”. its annoying because my doctor says im fine and that im jst muscular. i love sports and i love baseball and volleyball. i have tight thighs but they are BIG and my mom is always complaining to me that i should lose weight. i also have “curves” if you kno wat i mean and my mom says its not good to have it and i should lose my “curve”. why? why are asian parents so obsessed with weight loss. they want me to be like a stick and i’m sick of it. are there anyone else thats going through what im going through? =/

My parents don’t really care about my weight unless it’s very unhealthy. My grandma on the other hand, I love her very much, used to complain all the time when I gained a lot of weight when I was twelve. It made me feel insecure and unhappy all the time. However my friends tell me I look great and they get annoyed if I ever ask them if I’m fat because they always respond I’m not. One of my friends were surprised when they noticed my curves and said I had a wonderful hour-glass figure. I then explained to my grandma and that when she told me things like that it hurt me and she stopped. Instead she told me to exercise and stuff instead of telling me I was “fat”. I am 5’2 (or taller I don’t know) and was 125 and now am 116-119. I guess I’m “happy” with my weight now. I have the dreaded thunder-thighs but I’ve gotten over it because I guess it’s a genetic and I can’t do anything about it. Also, my thighs compared to other people are actually small. I also used to run and my calves are a bit big and when I stopped I lost most of the muscle there, but I’ve gotten over that issue too. To save yourself from anymore sadness or insecurity you should just straight out tell your family how you feel when they tell you things like that. Hopefully they’ll understand how you feel and stop.

The fact that you’re Asian has a bit to do with it, aside from the pressure from the media to be a stick figure. Have you ever been to an Asian country? Almost ALL of them are thin. Your friends call you fat just because you’re bigger than THEY are, not because you’re really fat. And your parents just want you to fit in, with both American AND Asian ideals. You’re not actually fat, you’re just bigger than most Asian girls. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Your not fat. Just sportsy. They really shouldnt be getting onto you about this. A)its your choice b) its really none of there buisness.
I have pretty muscualr thighs to, and people think im kind of fat on my lower body. I play volleyball too. Thats how there exposed to be. All i know is dont lose your curve. Because its not the size that makes a woman, but there curves. So i think you should ignore them or tell them to leave you alone cause your happy with who you are and if they dont like it, they can deal with it.

Asian ppl value that cute little girl look. Cute thin little girl look tend to last a long time, if not forever. The problem with girls who are thick and curvy is that most of them end up fat. Cute thin little girl still thin cute little girl. Even if you had a body like J-Lo, it’s kinda embarassing cuz everybody looking at you and saying “damn, look at that big ***”..haha. Asians like to see cute little thin girl look and say “awww…so cute”. They want to show to all their friends and everybody’s like “awww…so cute”. With big butt, everybody laughs, even though you’re hot…it’s just funny. It’s like aporn star…they’re hot, but everybody don’t take it seriously.

Do not let the minds of others ever change what your think. If you think and your doctor tells you you do not need to loose weight. or that you are not overweight than thats all you need. Just because people you shouldnt judge do, dont think what they think. be proud of your body and all of it. it is hard but it is what we have to do. and Everyone should stop judging on weight. because what the “perfect image” is what can kill you. just look at all the celebrities going through what you what we all are. Look at how sick they get. Don’t ever change your image of what you look like from the words of others.

  7. Chen Z says:

asians have a higher probability of getting a disieas like cancer and stuff when they are a little over weight. maybe thats why ur parents tell you to loose wieght.

  8. Anna T says:

haha. yeah. i think theyre all like that. maybe cause everyone in asia is really rreally skinny. cause last time i went there, everyone was skin and bones

  9. Dookie says:

you’re considered fat because everyone in asia is a toothpick.
you probably aren’t though, so just ignore them.

  22. Emma says:

ur prbly just curvy. i know lots of absolutely beautiful girls that are just curvey. why do u care what ur mom thinks anyway? plz, just cuz shes ur mom duznt mean u should care:)

  23. JJ says:

Dont let it get ya down. As long as you know your not fat thats all that matters. Someone should take your mom along with the owner of Victoria Secret and tell size 1 is not attractive and curves are attractive. I wear a size 5 sometimes a 7 in jeans. My boyfriend went to Victoria secret to buy me something for xmas and he told the women my jean size and she said “oh, she wears large!” Cmon ppl! Since when did a size 5 or 7 become large. Its these ppl making all these young girls think they have to be a size 1 to be beautiful to the point ppl are killing themselves tryin to be skinny

  24. dookiebo says:

    your perfectly fine.
curves are nice, but you have to relize that old “asians” aren’t use to having curves and most were kinda bony you are a new generation where you have curves(could’ve been a trait) so doesn’t mean its you or that your fat. just be yourself, you know your healthy and you shouldn’t worry about it

  25. Niki T says:

Well, in asian society, thin is healthy and apparently, they get it into thier heads that thinner is healthier and I guess with most asians, weight is usually put on places that aren’t considered healthy places to put on weight, usually on the waist or hips (apparently hips are not in style. I’ve been called hippo hips because I didn’t have lower than 33″-34″ hips). It’s worse in asian countries now but I think it’s kind of always been around so even older asian parents have the fat-phobia. I think it also has to do with the fear that their children will not marry and become successful.
I know in japan now, if someone finds out you’re over 105 lbs, you’re a fatty fat fat fat!!! My grandma on the other hand, was comfortable with the idea of weighing 115-120 lbs. She flipped out and told me to lose weight though when I told her I actually weigh 140. I have good measurements though. My waist is only 27″ but my grandma thought my waist was 22-23″ because I have a rather large bust and large hips. Like if you got the top of a busty swimsuit model from japan and stuck a J-lo booty on her. (In japan, if you’re above or look like you’re above 24-25″, you could be considered fat) I basically look like a curvy 50′s actress, lots of curves but no flab. I also have quite a bit of muscle on my frame too. If I didn’t open my big mouth, my relatives would have believed that I was still only 115 lbs with a 22-23″ waist and I wouldn’t have had to deal with thier nagging.
So, if you can get away with it, just don’t tell anyone your weight and just dress to appear slimmer. They’ll think you lost weight and you can keep your weight in your head.
